This was emphasized by People's Deputy of Ukraine Volodymyr Kreidenko during a round table on the occasion of the start of Road Safety Week.
Currently, according to the relevant Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, there is no such standardization: a person can wear any helmet, for example, for roller skating, and ride a motorcycle in it - no law enforcement officer will fine them. Although the safety of the motorcyclist will be in big question, because such a helmet will not protect in the event of a fall, noted Volodymyr Kreidenko.
The standards that determine the level of safety of helmets are in force in the USA, Canada, Britain, and many EU countries, so it is necessary to introduce them in Ukraine, unifying them, in particular, with European standards, the MP emphasized.
Volodymyr Kreidenko also drew attention to other legislative initiatives related to the safety and rights of road users. In particular, regarding the modernization (increase) of fines and the introduction of penalty points for violating traffic rules, determining the validity period of driver's licenses, and others.
Let us remind you that from May 12 to 18, 2025, the 8th Global Road Safety Week will be held in the world under the auspices of the UN.
Its main slogan "Street for Life" involves attention in two directions:
- Let's make cycling safe!
- Let's make walking safe!
