Functions and tasks
Today, the level of mortality and injuries in Ukraine due to road accidents is quite high, and the level of road safety organization remains extremely low. The state's losses due to low road safety have in recent years led to the search for ways to prevent road accidents and promote scientific research in the field of road safety and the implementation of their results in practice.
According to statistics, about 70% of all road accidents are caused by the driver, mainly due to drivers' failure to comply with traffic rules, inadequate level of driver training and their qualifications.Considering that every year there is a significant intensification of road traffic, the situation on the roads is becoming more complicated, and accordingly, the requirements for drivers, their health, and their psychophysiological indicators are increasing. Equally important is the conscious and responsible attitude towards road safety of all other road users.
Taking this into account, the Kyiv Interregional Branch of the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, within its competence, carries out scientific and methodological, as well as educational and educational activities aimed at:
- reducing the level of injuries and deaths on the roads;
- raising awareness among drivers and other road users about the rules for providing first aid to victims during a road accident;
- improving the professional level of medical workers regarding methods of conducting pre-trip and post-trip medical examinations of vehicle drivers;
- providing the necessary material and technical base for offices to conduct alternating pre-trip and post-trip medical examinations of vehicle drivers;
- development of regulatory legal acts regarding mandatory psychophysiological examinations of drivers;
- solving important issues in the medical and transportation industries.
Among other things, since 2015, the Kyiv Interregional Branch of the Institute of Transport Medicine under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has been the coordinator of the National Road Safety Weeks in Ukraine, whose measures are aimed at implementing the goals set by the UN General Assembly within the framework of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety for 2021-2030 worldwide.
