If earlier we saw a considerable number of jeeps, crossovers, and other large cars on the country's roads, today we see that 30-40% of vehicles are small electric cars that move very quickly and, accordingly, cause other injuries in accidents. They need to be analyzed and completely different conclusions and protocols for medical care in case of a road accident should be drawn, Roman Derkach, chief physician of the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, emphasized during a roundtable discussion on the occasion of Road Safety Week.
In such accidents, the lower extremities are more often injured. Another aspect: the age and gender of drivers are changing. It can be predicted that in the coming years more women will be injured than men. Accordingly, it will be necessary to involve more gynecologists and endocrinologists. We also need to remember about people with disabilities, they will increasingly get behind the wheel. If such a person is injured in a traffic accident, they will need specialized help. Also a serious challenge are people with PTSD. A person who has experienced stress and appropriate treatment will obviously need the help of a psychologist, so their professional participation should also be included in the medical assistance protocols for road accidents.
